Travelling by Car

From the North or South

Just a mile or so from Salzburg and Klagenfurt airports is the A10 motorway which leads all the way to St Michael. Make sure you have purchased the vignette to use motorways in Austria. When you leave the airport just follow signs for Villach (from Salzburg) or Salzburg (from Klagenfurt) . After about 100km scenic driving, you'll come to the turn-off for St Michael where you need to pay the tunnel toll.
We have negotiated discounted rates on car hire with Rhino Car Hire or there’s Auto Europe if you want to make a comparison. The eco-conscious among you may be pleased to know that the Rhino website shows the CO2 emissions and MPG for all their cars. We have ample parking here at the resort, with one space per chalet and additional room under our covered parking area.

From the East

From the east e.g. from Vienna you will need to head to Klagenfurt and then onto the S6 / S36 and B96. It's a bit of a long journey but the most beautiful scenery.

Using Public Transport or Airport Transfers

By Train

st martin chalets are also easy to reach by train and other public transport. The closest train stations are Tamsweg, 15 km away and Radstadt, 50 km away. We will be happy to pick you up on request or organise a taxi if we're busy.

Travelling by Plane

Several airlines operate flights to Salzburg Airport (and sometimes Klagenfurt Airport) from various airports across the UK, with St Michael and st martin chalets located almost equal distances between these two airports, at just over an hour’s drive from each. We always use Skyscanner to find the best flights because it allows you to check multiple airlines at once (select your airports and ‘whole month’ to find the cheapest flights).

Alternatively, you can fly into Munich airport (2.5 hour drive) or Venice Airport. Vienna airport is approximately 3.5hrs drive. We are only an hours drive from the Italian and Slovenian borders too so why not combine a bit of touring combined with a longer visit to st martin chalets.

What is there not to like?

What is there not to like? 5* accommodation, great hosts and more things to do than you can shake a stick at. Currently sitting in the Panorama Alm drinking coffee whilst brushing the fresh powder off the jacket.

Once you are in, you never want out

There is one problem with a St Martin chalet, once you are in, you never want out. Life is so easy with the food delivered, restaurants taken care of and in case you run out of wine a handy racks full at the reception. The comforts of your own home, the family around you, the amazing food of Lungau region, the laid back atmosphere and the magic scenery. We went twice and we are looking to return again and again and again.

Now, I have added another thing to my Bucket List: returning to st martin chalets!

I planned for almost a year to find the perfect place to complete the #1 item on my Bucket List. I had aspired to dive in the GrunerSee. st martin chalets made it come true. They were able to do anything that I needed or wanted. When I arrived, they had already contacted a divemaster for me (Leo Maierhuber was wonderful). The area is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Now, I have added another thing to my Bucket List: returning to st martin chalets!
