The Austrian Alps around Lungau are full of opportunities for wonderful cycling – both on the roads and in the mountains. We have hundreds of family-friendly cycle paths and challenging cross-country routes, which are suitable for cyclists of all abilities.


Road cycling in Lungau is becoming ever more popular. The roads in Lungau are generally quiet and if you know where to go, which we do, it’s possible to cover tens of kilometres without ever seeing a car. In some places, cars simply aren’t allowed, which means there are miles and miles of flat, asphalt surfaces just for you and your road bike.

Wide Variety of Routes and Options

of various difficulty levels

This is one of the Lungau region’s biggest selling points. Generally our routes are well signposted, which means you can take your bike and head off into the hills on your own. We’ll set you up with a map and give you some instructions on where to head, or you can join one of our organised bike rides. As well as unmarked trails, there are 15 marked mountain bike routes of various difficulty levels and elevation changes, covering a total of 560km. Bike transport is included in the summer gondola lift prices, which means you can spend all day bombing down, then use the gondolas from St Martin or Mauterndorf to get back up again.

st martin chalets lies right next to the Mur cycle path making us an ideal base for a bike based adventure holiday. Throughout the spring, summer and autumn we lead our own cycle tours. These vary from short trips taking no more than a morning, to 300km+ tours of the Mur Valley. Our approach is relaxed and we’ll try to organise groups according to ability and experience. If you’d prefer to head out alone, we’ll talk you through our favourite routes and provide a map of the local area. Whatever your level, there’s something here for you.

What is there not to like?

What is there not to like? 5* accommodation, great hosts and more things to do than you can shake a stick at. Currently sitting in the Panorama Alm drinking coffee whilst brushing the fresh powder off the jacket.

Once you are in, you never want out

There is one problem with a St Martin chalet, once you are in, you never want out. Life is so easy with the food delivered, restaurants taken care of and in case you run out of wine a handy racks full at the reception. The comforts of your own home, the family around you, the amazing food of Lungau region, the laid back atmosphere and the magic scenery. We went twice and we are looking to return again and again and again.

Now, I have added another thing to my Bucket List: returning to st martin chalets!

I planned for almost a year to find the perfect place to complete the #1 item on my Bucket List. I had aspired to dive in the GrunerSee. st martin chalets made it come true. They were able to do anything that I needed or wanted. When I arrived, they had already contacted a divemaster for me (Leo Maierhuber was wonderful). The area is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Now, I have added another thing to my Bucket List: returning to st martin chalets!
