UNESCO Biosphere Lungau
We're delighted to report that Lungau is currently poised to join the world's elite "model regions for sustainable development" by becoming officially certified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The aim of the UNESCO scheme is to identify and protect habitats of exceptional natural beauty and value, where sustainable development is a priority. This
is good news for us. As well as helping us protect the region, the
biosphere badge should help us attract the right kind of investment and the right kind of visitors. Wish us luck and we'll keep you updated!

New Lift in St Martin!
Improvements for 2012
2012 is shaping up to be a great season for St Martin and Lungau. On the Aineck mountain they are in the latter stages of building a brand new gondola lift - the exciting-sounding 'Silverjet'. This will take you up a point where you can catch the (new last year) eight-person gondola that runs up to the peak of Aineck at 2220 metres. From here it's possible to take a number of different routes - from technical blacks and brand new, wide open carving pistes that lead you back down to St Margarethen, to a choice of black or red runs running down into Katschberg village.
There's also some big news on this side of the valley. Replacing St Martin's slightly antiquated two-person chairlift is a brand new six-person gondola - the Sonnenbahn. The lift station is only a few minutes' walk from our chalets (or offers free parking to those with a hire car) and the lift takes you up to Speiereck - our closest (and favourite) mountain. This lift is great news for us and, indeed, for the whole of St Michael and we know it will make a huge difference to our guests.
You can see how the lift has been developed by looking at the Sonnenbahn website: http://www.sonnenbahn.at/
Enjoy!!
